WHY OUR PROJECT?

The project "Going back to green future (On toure)" addresses directly an issue which is in increasing demand and relevance among all European communities: climate change (CC) mitigation. International treaties and European policies bound us to take effective action and at (inter-)national levels there is a substantial will to tackle these challenges, yet an actual implementation is difficult and slow and the awareness of the urgency of action itself is not enough.

In recent years, adult education institutions (AEI) in different ways aim to enable their learners to act sustainable. With a little more in-depth insight into the work of AEI staff (heads of departments, managers and other personnel who teach and support adult learners - our target group), we discover how nearly all areas of their work are to some extent intertwined with CC mitigation or, in other words, reaching sustainable development (SD) goals. Desktop researches, AEI staff conferences' conclusions, a number of projects that deal with SD topics show that AEI themselves stay without proper guidelines as to how to set an example of SD organisation in order to really tackle CC challenge holistically and systematically. They lack of proper guidelines on how to work or behave so that their work would always take into account the impact on the climate.

WHICH RESULTS WE'LL FOLLOW?

The project will by exchange of good practices among 7 partners from 6 countries* explore the possibility of establishing »an across Europe guidelines« for SD self-evaluation system and incorporation of SD goals in AEI by achieving the following results:

- A virtual collection of good practices of incorporation of SD goals in partners' countries organisations that will enable the users to get an overview of what worked best in each country.

- A list of self-evaluation tools and methods regarding incorporation of SD in organisations that will enable users to select their own method or tool for self-evaluation.

- Implemented 3-day training event »Ex-Change!« that will equip at least 19 participants with knowledge and skills necessary to successfully incorporate SD goals in their organisations.

- Developed and implemented Action plans that will encompass concrete measures, actions for incorporating SD goals in partner organisations.

- Identified min. 7 SD ambassadors as role models in each partner organisation for promotional and dissemination purposes who will take care over the implementation of Action plans and offer support to interested organisations.

- Facebook, Instagram, blog page as a communication campaign channels that will contain all relevant data regarding the project and its' activities.

- PhotoVoice Manifesto as a promotional method that will include all target groups, also adult learners, and as a method that enables critical reflection on the realities of every-day work and life.

AND OUR GOALS?

The »Going back to green future« project will:

- extend and develop adult education institutions staff's competences in the field of climate change mitigation in a broad sense;

- improve the capacity of adult learning institutions and organisations to incorporate sustainable development goals in their strategies, plans and, most importantly, in their everyday life and work;

- create opportunities for adult learners to become more environmentally responsible citizens in different European countries.

We expect that AEI will use the project's results as a starting point for or as a vehicle for their own development towards SD and will be able to set an example of SD organisation: how to work and behave so that their work would always take into account the impact on the climate. SD should be considered as a main principle to keep in mind when planning AEI daily life and development. One of the impacts on local, regional, national and European level will, thus, be an increase in awareness about the importance of continuous (quality) development of adult education institutions in order to meet the contemporary needs of adult learners.

The project will have an impact on AEI staff as a primary target group, on partner organisations and, secondly, on adult learners, adult education institutions, organisations providing training and on other stakeholders, such as adult education associations and policy-makers. The results of the project will be useful for all organisations active in adult education across Europe and they have the potential to be transferred and exploited in other European and other countries of the world. Long-term project's purpose is to increase the involvement of CC mitigation in the formulation of AEI policies/plans and to our daily behaviour.

The journey towards more sustainable development oriented adult education institutions is our project's goal we are aiming at, this is why we are »On toure«.

🔍So, follow our project and take a toure with us!
